Doctor Who, Season 8

Wish BBC still made them as good as them like this.

I know I am in the minority - bit I really do not rate the new Doctor

Peter is already my favourite doctor this is classic doctor who

It's been a great series so far with new doctor. Peter Capaldi is certainly going to end up being one of the greats, shame about a. The price of the series pass, and b. The way the videos have been sorted, with the episode being the first and followed by the extra, I thought that was what the use of 101 onwards was for. The filing system for doctor who series past series 5 has gotten a bit of a mess...

We have had eight episodes now, and the twelfth Doctor's tenure is now almost fully established. I was skeptical about Capaldi playing the Doctor when it was announced and the episodes so far have done little to allay those fears. Capaldi hasn't got the youthful exuberance of Smith or the charm of Tennant and Ecclestone. He is however quieter, more subdued. This benefits the show greatly as other characters are able to shine. Jenna Coleman has, in my eyes at least, established herself as the best companion that the Doctor has had since the show's return in 2005. Guest stars such as Hermione Norris and Frank Skinner have had room to really shine. Barring one or two misfires, the writing has been a huge step forward. Not since series 5 have we had such wonderful story-telling. Into The Dalek is the first time something original has been done with the Daleks in my lifetime (I was born in '87). Kill The Moon was brooding and tense. The Caretaker was fun and light but full of character development. The only real let down has been Gatiss' Robots Of Sherwood, which missed the mark completely. Gatiss has done some incredible work recently on Sherlock and with An Adventure In Space And Time, but his Doctor Who work has never done it for me. Although I usually find that Gatiss' scripts are full of big Ideas that are poorly realised on screen, I found that I didn't like the characters, the plot or the dialogue of this year's contribution. Overall a good series that feels like it is preparing the groundwork for the coming few years... whether that future includes Capaldi and Coleman is yet to be seen, but there is plenty of room for a rallying finale. Five stars awarded due to tone, overall quality of stories and the amount of risks that have seemingly paid off so far.

Halfway through and it just gets stronger and stronger but why do the americans get it the day after it airs and us brits have to wait a week ??

The episode numbering for this season is confusing, because ya got the episodes and extras mixed in together when they should be kept seperate from each other.

This is a massive departure from previous seasons of doctor who and is yet linked to them in so many ways, the doctor has changed, he no longer has the boyish charm and slapstick humor of matt smith, he now has the essence of a man who has lived for hundreds of years (ala david tennant) but a deep darkness to him (ala chris eccleston/john hurt) but he seems to nor share any of their types of humor, he is brilliant but cold, inspired but sad, grand but blunt, he will take some getting used to...

He's back and this time he's...old? After a reboot full of younger Doctors, Peter Capaldi is a breath of fresh air. The new series is three episodes in, the BBC releasing episodes on iTunes a week after they air due to them being on iPlayer first. While some have complained about price, this set is good value when you consider that there are a whole bunch of extras and a behind the scenes programme for every episode, too.

Come on iTunes get your act together! I bought the season pass (HD) and now episode 2 is finally available it wants to charge me £2.49 to download it!!! Getting shoddy!
