Description

Recovered missing episodes of Doctor Who, the world’s longest running sci-fi drama are being revealed and available to view and own for the first time in over 40 years. Ten Doctor Who episodes were discovered through the tracking records of shipments made by the BBC to Africa that contained tapes for transmission. A restoration team has re-mastered each episode from the original black and white 1960s film and subsequently gone through a frame by frame restoration to the fantastic quality that audiences expect from Doctor Who. The first recovered story is The Enemy of the World, the fourth tale of Series 5 which first aired on the BBC in December 1967. The story features Patrick Troughton as both the Second Doctor and his antagonist (Ramon Salamander), alongside companions Jamie (Frazer Hines) and Victoria (Deborah Watling). On Earth in the near future, the Doctor and his companions are enmeshed in a deadly web of intrigue thanks to his uncanny resemblance to would-be 21st century dictator Salamander. He is hailed as the ""shopkeeper of the world"" for his efforts to relieve global famine, but why do his rivals keep disappearing? How can he predict so many natural disasters? The Doctor must expose Salamander's schemes before he takes over the world.

When I heard the rumours of recovered episodes, Enemy was the one I was least excited to see, but after watching it, it blew me away. Maybe the best Troughton story, and that's saying something. Wow!

A miracle of a find! Now fans can enjoy what proves to be one of Patrick Troughton's best adventures for Doctor Who. Stunningly good story!

Wow! What a find this is after 45 years. Always loved the novel of this story but never thought I would get to see it. A really top notch Adventure, with great story, lots of excellent actions sequences and great sets/locations. Interesting characters and a really good twist at the end. Quite epic and fast-paced for 60s Who too. Superb restoration work as well. A must buy for all Who fans.

This doppelgänger storyline could have turned up in The Avengers, The Prisoner, any Gerry Anderson production, Star Trek or Dad's Army. Here in Who is starts as a children's show a hilarious Troughton paddle in the sea but quickly evolves into an intense intrigue thanks to superb acting all round. The female guest roles are particularly strong and Dads watching with their kids might have been thinking Mrs Peel had met her match before realising it was too early in the evening for The Avengers. The costumes are great and a the low budget stretches to a hovercraft and a helicopter. Love this story. So glad it is back in the archive.

I've only ever heard the audio version of this story, so the chance to get to see it is just so fantastic. The episodes and the story doesn't disappoint either. Well worth it. Happy 50th Dr Who. iTunes, when are you going to release more of the classic series?

I had seen episode 3 many times, and quite frankly didn't like, and couldn't understand much of it. I had tried reading the Target book... several times... and failed. But this.... a chance to watch "new" Doctor Who with the ultimate Doctor himself was too good to miss so I downloaded (My first ever download from itunes) I am so glad I did. stylish direction, great characters and a great "twist" - what more could I ask for? If you think you "know" Enemy of the World".... THINK AGAIN.
