The Doctor and Romana respond to a distress call and find 2 spaceships literally locked together - one of them had come out of hyperspace off course and 'materialised' through the other. The Doctor comes up with a plan to separate the 2 ships - but can't get to the power control centre as it is through an unstable area. What are the strange creatures that appear and start attacking the passengers? And where have they come from? Even more worrying is the behaviour of some of the crew, who the Doctor realises is addicted to the highly dangerous and illeagal drug Vrax. Who is smuggling the drug? Can the Doctor uncover the truth and separate the ships before it is too late? Okay this story is not one of the best Tom Baker ever did - but it did have a very serious message to get across regarding drug addiciton. The special effects are a little shoddy at times, but it was the 70s so try to overlook this. The actors do their best to improve this story by putting their all into it. Ardent Doctor Who fans will find this story enjoyable - if you ignore all the special effects.

This is a pretty good story if you can look beyond the slighty dodgy production and special effects. Tom Baker turns in a pretty good performance as well. All in all whilst not one of the great stories it is by no means a bad story. What makes this download worthwhile though is that its so long since I saw this, its good to see some of these older stories coming through. My only criticism is the file naming by Apple, on iTunes after downloading a few stories I had a confusing list with all the episodes 1's together and all the episode 2's together etc, on my iPod it was hard to tell one story from another with all the episodes just being indicated by episode numbers. The shows were not even listed by their season numbers. This all meant I had to spend time renaming files to make them easier to use on my iPod. Please refine your naming Apple!

Unfairly maligned due to the poor production in this story but despite the bad visual effects (which are common to Who anyway) the Mandrels look quite good and the story is quite intriguing. All the actors put in good performances and the story flows quite nicely with the Doctor playing detective. The brilliant performance by Lewis Fiander as Tryst makes me smile on so many levels. While David Daker isn't as lively and good as his performance as Irongron in Time Warrior he still pulls off a good portrayal in this. 4/5
