Description

When the Doctor arrives at a human colony on Mars in 2059, he faces one of his darkest and most action-packed adventures yet. At first the people view him as a threat, but they soon need his help when a terrifying alien virus starts to transform them into monsters. The Doctor is hesitant to interfere because he knows the importance of the colony in history. But will he be able to stand by and watch as people are suffering? The Doctor must battle with his own thoughts and his fear that his role as the Time Lord might have gone too far. Has the time come for the Doctor to retire from the Tardis? Sci-fi drama starring David Tennant and Lindsay Duncan.

  • Easily the best Doctor Who special in 2009

I think a lot of us doctor who fans were disappointed with the planet of the dead - the easter special, which began the countdown of David Tennant's era, but this put all our doubts at rest, and reminded us why we love doctor who and how good it can really be. it still gives me chills thinking about it, with a brilliant twist at the end, which i wont spoil for anyone who has yet to watch it. one of my all time favourite episodes, and ive been watching the show since 1979, when Tom Baker was the doctor.
  • 'Base under siege'

This is a typical base under siege story that doesn't really develop people chase each other round a base, that's it, until the final 10 minutes very little happens.
  • Not as good as people make out

People say that this is 'No doubt the single most scary episode ever'. That's where they're wrong. This is fine for your six year olds, and although the make up is good, the monsters? Ridiculous.

Personally, I think this is the single best episode of Doctor Who ever created. OK, it's not the scariest, but it is possibly the deepest with a brilliant plot and superb story. The way David Tennant portrays the Doctor is nothing short of stunning and the segment between the Doctor deciding he "owns" time and time giving him a very rude awakening that he doesn't shows what a brilliant actor David Tennant is

Simply perfect, dark, scary, action packed, and at the end when they are all getting trapped by the water, a little bit emotional. Special effects were great, and this episode would have been good enough to be a movie! But if I were to pick out negative points, it would be how the doctor goes a bit power mad and it gets dragged out a little too long at the end

In my opinion this is the greatest episode of Doctor Who ever, due to David Tennants fantastic acting, especially in the last 15 minutes or so of the episode and also down to the fact that it was amazingly well written.
