Description

Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) first met in their twenties in Before Sunrise; reunited in their thirties in Before Sunset; and, now, in director Richard Linklater's amazing Before Midnight, they face the past, present and future; family, romance, and love. Now married and in Greece, the couple looks for a night of passion, but instead their idyllic night turns into a test of their relationship, and a discussion of what their future holds for them.

Unfortunately the third film is way off the mark in my opinion. It's clinging onto the format of the first two but it just doesn't have any meat on its bones. I could watch the first two films again and again but I (as did my partner) actually fell asleep during this and we haven't yet brought ourselves to go back and watch the end. Frankly, it's dull.

I watched the two earlier movies, and they were good. This final “episode" is in line with the two previous ones, albeit not as “great". As other reviewers mentioned, if you are into mind-numbing/white teeth bimbos movies, this one is not a movie for you. It is a cerebral, moving movie, with real, smart characters, with their flaws. Beautiful.

… you can't string a sentence together of more than two words, you only enjoy movies with 100+ killings, you think the extravagance of explosions in a movie is a measure of quality, you have an attention span of an ant ...

This film is beyond incredible… probably the best film I've seen this year. I walked out the cinema and felt completely satisfied. I really cannot rate this film enough, it is really really incredible! Watch it!!!!

Difficult viewing at times, but compelling, moving, funny, real, authentic, heart-rending, and ultimately hopeful. Not the end, just a stage in a definitive movie romance. A labour of love for actors, director, and all fans of the Before series. Delpy, Hawke & Linklater tell it how it is, but also how we wish it could be.

...they now inflict a third on us. All this naval gazing isn't for me, I'm afraid.
