Description

Gus Lobel (Clint Eastwood) has been one of the best scouts in baseball for decades, but, despite his efforts to hide it, age is starting to catch up with him. Nevertheless, Gus refuses to be benched for what could be the final innings of his career. He may not have a choice. The front office of the Atlanta Braves is starting to question his judgment, especially with the country's hottest batting phenom on deck for the draft. The one person who might be able to help is also the one person Gus would never ask: his daughter, Mickey (Amy Adams), an associate at a high powered Atlanta law firm whose drive and ambition has put her on the fast track to becoming partner. Mickey joins him on his latest scouting trip to North Carolina, jeopardizing her own career to save his. Forced to spend time together for the first time in years, each makes new discoveries, revealing long held truths about their past and present that could change their future.

This is one of those films that you can predict the ending from near the start but so what! It IS a nice story that develops at just the right pace, includes a great sport as a backdrop and its always nice to see Clint do some real acting instead of in a big budget, too much action and too much CGI piece of crap. The father daughter relationship is perfect. He has made mistakes but like so many other films, he doesn’t go in for the full apology as she knows he will never change but deep down like any father, he loves her and thats what matters. You may think its schmaltzy and predictable but thats because we have been sold way too many action movies and not enough storytelling. Trust me and watch it...

If you enjoy baseball and the relationships behind the sports scene, you'll enjoy it. Had never seen Amy Adams before but she is the successor to Meryl Streep, a natural.

Trouble with the Curve is a brilliant movie. Gentle, charming and at times, funny. Clint Eastwood is as grumpy and stubborn as usual and has some great lines. The supporting cast is great - Amy Adams is really believable, Justin Timberlake is bearable (I cannot usually stand him), but the gem here is John Goodman. I usually find him to be brash, over the top and one dimensional, but in this film he manages to come across as likeable. Although I don't know much about baseball, the little that the film focused on acted well as a translation of any sport... From the myriad scouts watching players to the way the sports are all being modernised. The focus of the scouts is Bo Gentry (played by relative newcomer Joe Massingill) a cocky high school player who is mostly untested by those he plays against. The way he is portrayed is recognisable to any sport fan as a criticism of sports-stars both established and in waiting. The film focuses on the relationship between Gus Lobel (Eastwood) and his daughter Mickey (Adams) and gradually tells the back story of how they grew apart as Mickey tries to address it. Although there is an emotional element to the premise, it is well balanced with humour that will leave a smile on your face.

Did not rate this film at all. I was hoping for so much more. All I can say is that it was mediocre, the acting is verging on poor and story line cheesey. If you have nothing else to do and nothing else to watch then give it a go.

Worth a watch for a romantic view of small American towns and 3 very good performances from the key actors and actress. I just think the balance of the film let it down... it is a heartfelt film with strong chemistry between the role players but the ending could have been better, like many of Eastwood's directed efforts. Definitely worth renting, but the film should have been 50% shorter and the ending 50 (and beyond) 50% longer to make it as enjoyable as it could have been: a feel good romantic comedy drama.

Decent ending, but you will want to switch this off if your not American. The lines are very cliche and the story is a mixture of other films already been done. It's just a love story based around baseball scouting. And a poor love story at that.
