Description

In the blood-chilling tradition of Halloween and Village of the Damned comes John Carpenter's unique vision of the ultimate killing machines, VAMPIRES. "Forget everything you've ever heard about vampires," warns Jack Crow (James Woods), the leader of Team Crow, a relentless group of mercenary vampire slayers. When Master Vampire Valek (Thomas Ian Griffith) decimates Jack's entire team, Crow and the sole team survivor, Montoya (Daniel Baldwin), set out in pursuit. Breaking all the rules, Crow and Montoya take one of Valek's victims hostage. The beautiful but unlucky prostitute (Sheryl Lee) is their sole psychic link to Valek, and through her senses they will track down the leader of the undead. As Valek nears the climax of his 600-year search for the Berziers Cross, Jack and the new Team Crow do everything humanly possible to prevent him from possessing the only thing that can grant him and all vampires the omnipotent power to walk in the daylight.

The best vampire film in the world I can watch it again and again
  • A dirt cheap exploitative mess

Carpenter had talent as the astoundingly brilliant "The Thing" and the criminally overlooked "In the Month of Madness" showed. But he brought none of that talent to this repugnant mess. The only redeeming feature is the performance James Woods delivered, which in itself is not enough to save the film

With early 80s horror production values, this film must have seemed dated on it's release in 1999 (IMDB says 1997). I'm not sure if it made it into theatres/cinemas. If it had been made in the 80s on a low budget it would still look inadequate. I've read reviews apologising for this film stating it's a western not a horror movie, it's not it just isn't any good western horror or otherwise. With misogynistic undertones, dreadful direction and awful design, costume makeup and lighting this is a poor film. If you want to marvel at the lows this disaster of a movie sinks to then go ahead, otherwise save your money. This is 90 minutes you can't get back. You're likely to feel cheated.

  • Good effort on making a realistic vampire movie

This film does away with a lot of the stupid stuff that ruins vampire films (e.g. garlic - how would a vegatable EVER help in a fight?) and presents a realistic, gritty, modern day take which is pretty decent.

This a good film, full of the Carpenter motif's you would expect; slashings, gore, heads ripped off etc. It's certainly has more to do with an Americana take on vampires, they are bit more rock n'roll vampires, & not the urbane aristo's in dinner jackets of Europe. All in all very entertaining if you like to be entertained by such stuff as guns, spears, stakes, much bloodletting & if you like John Carpenter's movies (the Thing, Ghosts of Mars, Assault on Precinct 13 etc) then you'll like this for the pure heck of it. If you want to see a brilliant and novel approach on the vampire myth though you HAVE to watch 30 Days Of Night, boy oh boy, a pure bona fide classic.

Just read the above review and folks take no notice. aye its no Francis Ford Coppola and Thomas Ian Griffith aint Gary Oldman, but its no meant to be. What is is fun with the coolest way to kill a vampire EVER and a chance to see James Woods as a tough guy. A wouldnt pay £6.99 for it but dont be sworn off, just catch it else where or rent it. At the very least ul get a laugh. Vampires 2 on the other hand NO, NO, NO. What was Jon Bon Jovi thinking? Look after urselves Slayers.
  • DO NOT GO NEAR THIS FILM!!!
