Description

Horror-meister John Carpenter (Halloween, Escape from New York) teams Kurt Russell's outstanding performance with incredible visuals to build this chilling version of the classic The Thing. In the winter of 1982, a twelve-man research team at a remote Antarctic research station discovers an alien buried in the snow for over 100,000 years. Once unfrozen, the form-changing alien wreaks havoc, creates terror and becomes one of them.

  • AT LAST THE 4K RELEASE THIS DESERVES

i've seen the Arrow upscaled release on blu ray and hated the extra grain that came with it like the Predator release i thought was wrong to do and was a lazy way of just upscaling older films with a 4k scan, this 4k release finally puts this film on the same mantle as Alien and Blade Runner for the wow factor, colour is brilliant and the most stand out part of this transfer, but also none of the grain that is on the so called new masters, to me that is what a 4k title should be like, not more grain added than was on any other previous version, apart from the SFX scenes this film is like it come out in the last couple of years, for all the fans of this film this is an incredible transfer and one of the very best Universal have done, only gripe if you will is the sound is not in Atmos and no extras, which is a big shame, but the picture alone is worth every penny, to see this film again is like watching it for the first time for alot of scenes which makes this not only a must buy but also one of the best 4k titles to get. Awesome stuff

Carpenters The Thing is the pinnacle of horror… I watch this film at least once a year and am always constantly impressed how this has held up so far in story and especially in effects! I own this film on every format including Laserdisc! It could do with a 4K update that has been implemented with care and attention and really does lack all the extras that came with the DVD/Blu-Ray! Come on Universal sort this out!

Biblical special effects, ground breaking horror, superb acting and as good as Alien in every respect. Just a claustrophobic, just as nerve jangling edge of your seat knuckle clenching, breath holding terror. For the absolute best effect, it requires late night viewing, lights off. Terrifying in 1982 just as terrifying in 2021

John Carpenter is a legend and this movie is his greatest. It’s funny, scary, disturbing, claustrophobic and extremely tense. Every single cast member nails it and keep you second guessing - the perfect ensemble. The gut wrenching fx are still better than anything being produced today. Carpenter’s soundtrack is spot on and captures the eeriness and isolation perfectly. Universal, please upgrade this to 4K and add as many extras as possible - including the 80 minute documentary from the DVD.

The thing is the best film with practical effects of all time. The gore is horrifying and does not look dated like the other terrible horror cash grabs we get now. The characters are all very unique in my opinion and the story while being simple, works so well.

Tension, incredible effects and a simplicity in acting from all the cast make this perhaps THE best Horror. Kurt Russell (again) nails his role (as does everyone). Everything works (even the dark comedy) and make this film everything the prequel was not. Class...
