Description

The hunt is on! A new technologically-superior Soviet nuclear sub, the Red October, is heading for the U.S. coast under the command of Captain Marko Ramius (Connery). The American government thinks Ramius is planning to attack. A lone CIA analyst (Baldwin) has a different idea: he thinks Ramius is planning to defect, but he has only a few hours to find him and prove it - because the entire Russian naval and air commands are trying to find him, too. Based on Tom Clancy's bestseller, directed by John McTiernan (Die Hard) and starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin, The Hunt For Red October seethes with high-tech excitement and sweats with the tension of men who hold Doomsday in their hands.

I have watched this many times. Sean Connery is superb in this even with his Scottish / Russian accent! It is totally suspenseful from beginning to end with great twists and turns along the way. The ending is magnificent making this a classic in my eyes.

Great film but the bit rate for the 1080p encode is not high enough to resolve the detail of the underwater shots on a decent TV and ends up just a washed out mess. The film also has some horrendous digital noise over the latter 20 mins. Stick with the blu-ray.

You can't argue with a Scottish-Russian accent. Great film.

This film has one of my favourite scenes of all movies. There is a point where the Sean Connery and his Executive Officer are talking russian, the camera zooms in slowly where the language changes from Russian to enlish mid sentence. From that point onwards they are all speaking english and the camera zooms out again to carry on. I just thought it was a really clever and no n-obtrusive way of manging the change to the english language for a Russian submarine crew.
  • Excellent film!
