The Many Saints of Newark

On its own this could have been a decent film; however trying to shoe horn in sopranos references and voice overs really kills the movie. The directing is also poor and lacks any real visual flair or ambition; outside of a memorable sequence at the beech, there’s not one memorable sequence in the whole movie.

I bought this not really expecting much but I found it to be good. It’s not a bad film at all and I enjoyed seeing the younger versions of the characters. Definitely better than people are saying.

As a huge fan of the Sopranos. I was very disappointed, so many many unanswered questions with no where enough links to the series.

It’s tough going, trying to keep interested in a film that’s pedestrian at best.

I know the tv series well but this film seems to lack the same pace or energy or interest as the original series.

It’s an almost impossible responsibility to bring a satisfying two-hour movie from a brilliant seven-series TV show, so went in to this with some caution. I think David Simon just about did it, although watching this without an almost Wikipedia Sopranos knowledge must be quite a challenging experience. I loved all the references and the subtle character-driven reveals (i.e. Christopher’s Oedipal complex) but it does require a little patience and attention. Personally, I’m looking forward to watching this again, a bit like the TV series. I’ve dropped a star as, to me, it lost momentum around the one hour and forty minutes mark and the ending was a little disappointing (but that may be because I didn’t want it to end).

Wafer thin script and very little character development. Felt like a massively missed opportunity trying to fit in all the various Sopranos characters, which came across like a bunch of poor imitations. The random moments of directed VO over various sections felt like a confused Scorsese rip off. Very disappointed as I’m a huge Sopranos fan. Wait for this to come to Netflix.

Absolute rubbish. You won’t care about any of the characters in this plotless, ambling and pointless car crash of a ‘movie’. What a waste of source material. It could have been great. If only I could award half or zero stars…

I was disappointed esp as this is the prequel to the Sorprano series. We see the history and the made guys of the past, the story feels like a pilot and I find it weak. At best this “film” should be series 1 Episode 1 hopefully a part 2 would have more direction and a solid story. Don’t let Tony go out like that.
