Description

The heat is on in Baltimore. The drug war is being lost, bodies are piling up, and a desperate mayor wants the tide turned before the election. But the police department hasn't got any answers. Wiretaps haven’t worked. Neither have stakeouts or street busts. With the demolition of the Franklin Terrace towers, Stringer Bell and the Barksdale crew have been forced to improvise. But no matter how hard McNulty and the detail try, the dealers always seem to be one step ahead of the game. It’s time to change the rules. A new story begins in Season 3 of the acclaimed HBO drama series that focuses on the vagaries of crime, law enforcement, and politics in Baltimore, MD. As told from the points of view of both the police and their targets, The Wire captures a universe of subterfuge and surveillance, where easy distinctions between good and evil, and crime and punishment, are challenged at every turn.

This show is a masterpiece, a work of art. It has no flaws. Hats off to HBO & America.

Well, this is one very well made, considered and gripping television show. The impact that The Wire, and particularly this series, had on me as a viewer was powerful and i can't exactly put my finger on why. It may be the complex characters or quality of the production, insightful statements about modern urban life and the direct influence of politics, the subtlety/brutality of the story but I guess that it's the way these things are combined that makes it great. This show has muscle. The acting and casting must also play a big part- using relative unknowns and locals is pure genius and makes the show feel complete and not built around an actor. I know it's 'only telly' and there's no point in going on about it too much (although I could), but there's been few films that I've seen that I could be so totally positive about. The first two series are brilliant and also deserve 5*, but this one takes it just a bit further. i confess that I haven't seen the final two series yet, but was compelled to write on this one. If you can handle it, this show will totally absorb you and may actually make you want to write a review about it. You can get it (substantially cheaper) on DVD, it's worth keeping. 'Ya feel me?'

Have just finished Series 3 of The Wire, and it just about ended up being the best one so far. I haven't seen 4 or 5 yet but can't imagine them being much better... The drama!! So much happens. It really is Shakespearian.
