Description

Steve Carell (The 40-Year-Old Virgin) stars in this half-hour sitcom based on Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's award-winning comedy . Told through the lenses of a documentary film crew, The Office exposes the humorous and often foolish events at Dunder-Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. In this first season, Dunder-Mifflin Regional Manager, Michael Scott (Carell) leads the documentary team and his staff on a journey through inappropriate behavior, well-intentioned but misguided comments and a myriad of poor management techniques. Michael has no clue that his employees barely tolerate him. In his mind, he is their guru, their mentor and their cool friend. His staff includes his dedicated-to-the-point-of-annoying assistant, Dwight Schrute, office receptionist Pam and likable sales rep Jim. During the six episodes of Season 1, Dunder-Mifflin tackled tough subjects like company layoffs, diversity initiatives, health care and office alliances. Anyone who has ever worked in a "team" environment can appreciate the humor and suffering of the Dunder-Mifflin staff and The Office.

  • A million times better than the UK office

Mostly down to the fact that Steve Carel exudes charm and beauty- Gervais is just vile and loathsome- he makes my skin crawl and thats not the character that's just what he exudes. Watch this, watch all seasons and be inspired by the storylines of finding love but also laugh lots!

A student has beaten the master - as Mike would put it. The british version is darker and had a different humor, slower humor. US office on the other hand has FAR better cast (sorry uk), far better characters (i'd blame this on the number of seasons) and better jokes. I really like brit humor, but at some points it was just plain in tasteful on the uK series, whereas in the US spinoff, even when it's too much, it makes sense, since it's there for a reason. In US all the characters show theiy have different sides… And so on...

For goodness sake this is the US version, the other ones the English version stop complaining and comparing them why don't you just say what you don't like about it instead of trying to compare it to something that is rather different to the original. If you hate this that much then you be wouldn't waste your time winging and moaning about the US version.

The original UK version is in another league to this. It won pretty much every comedy award there is and yet it isn't available on iTunes, crazy. This version is just a dumbed down version of the original.
  • UK - give it a whirl, you will come to love it

The first series on its own admission is a pale immitation of the British Office - it's funny but not hilarious, however as the series progress and the American writers and performers get to do their own thing it just gets better and better. Steve Carell is obviously brilliant but the whole cast just grows in confidence and become better defined and the results are hilarious. BJ Novak (Ryan the temp) and Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapoor) write superbly as well as perform. Among all this you have the genius of Dwight Shrute (Rainn Wilson) and Andy Bernard (Ed Helms - the hangover) two of the best TV characters ever and the Tim/Dawn (in the US Jim & Pam) relationship is developed more. Start the journey folks - there are six series and it's addictive. You will love it - promise.

If you have ever heard of BS like 6 sigma which is totally ignored along with all the in a real work place or redundancy, hostile take overs, Bankruptcies, back stabbing, credit crunch etc why the steve carell is not on par with or well cast for a David Brent character

Season 1 is too much like the uk version but by time season 2 starts it leaves the uk version standing. Ricky had a good idea and the uk version was great at the time but things move on and grow! The US version is sooo much better, better acting, better writing, plots, stories, jokes better everything! 12 uk episodes total (plus 2 Christmas shows) or over 100 brilliantly writen US episodes. It speaks for itself (I'm from the uk too) the Americans have taken a short good show from the uk and made it one of the best things to come from over the pond, ever!
