Brilliant portrayal of Qui-Gon Jinn from Liam Neeson but otherwise was this film necessary?
  • Not as bad

I once thought this was the worst Star Wars film. Well I was wrong thank you Attack fo the clones your the worst. The cgi is very noticeable in this film and it’s funny how even though this came out 16 years later after Return of the Jedi those films still looks amazing. Characters are good nothing special. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan and awesome as well as Darth Maul, everyone else is very mediocre and the acting quite wooden. Mostly I don’t mind this film the story is good but it just feels very mediocre. Thank you

OK, we can all agree that attack of the clones is the WORST movie. This one was better, but awful. Really really awful.

A really great Star Wars film! Its grown on me over time!! It is very true to the orginals and has the Star Wars flare. The music is fantastic and Maul is amazing, not forgetting Qui Gon Ginn and Obi-wan Kenobi!! Pod Racing.. A young anakin skywalker. Its all so much fun! Jar Jar adds that Childish humour but it's Star Wars at heart!! Great start for the Prequels.
  • Awesome movie

I’ve heard a lot of people complain about this movie, but I found it to be very entertaining. Sure, some of the acting can be a bit off putting sometimes and Jar Jar Bunks is a bit clumsy, but that’s just the way it is. The special effects are spectacular and the characters are interesting.
  • Has become a beautifully innocent masterpiece over time.

I was there in 1999. My favourite film was 1977’s Star Wars. The Phantom Menace landed amongst a great longing for more of the story from a galaxy far, far away. I was not one of those disappointed. And now watching the opening piece of the Star Wars saga in 2018 Episode I has matured into an epically gentle and beautifully innocent introduction to the Skywalker legend. The breadth of worlds, the invention of design and technology alongside the beauty of the costumes combine to create an unrivalled sci-fi adventure. George Lucas has poured his heart and soul into this and you can feel it with the loving origin stories linking wonderfully with the later episodes and culminating in the most balletic and intoxicating lightsaber duel of the entire saga between Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Darth Maul. Jar-Jar Binks illicits a child-like sympathy for those manipulated by a higher power and is the perfect foil for the darker undertones emanating from the Sith. And the pod race. My God the pod race. The sound work, the invention, the pace and sheer velocity of a character defining race is unparalleled in cinema let alone Star Wars. Episode I is the most wonderful introduction to Star Wars and has quite simply matured into a sci-fi masterpiece.
