RDJ is well known for his acting, but here he really does put the performance of his life. Very moving, very powerful, a movie I've watched several times and will never get bored of it.

The acting is very good and cinematography excellent. But.... I was missing something for me it didn't quite gel. Are there really advocates in the USA with this type of attitude and are there Judges of this age still sitting? Also I have never heard a silent water fall even when RD Jnr was breaking into the diner next to it there was no water noise. Just surprising. I found the sequence at the end of the film in the boat extremely good. A good 4 star I think but certainly not 5.

Very good casting choices, story well written and played out, one to watch again and again, very emotional towards the end, really warmed to characters.

After recent disappointments including Fury, 71, Nightcrawler…. this film is worth! Superb acting, a great story and picture book American small town scenery. This was really good.

What a stunningly good film !! It had me laughing, crying, drawn-in and on the edge of my seat. The characters had depth, the plot was cunning and inter-twining. I didn't want it to end ... I watched this last night, & have been thinking about it all day, such was its impact on me. What a film !!!
  • At some point...

At some point, you just have to admit that you’re too fat and too old. It’s a fair try, but there’s too much hair dye and/or doughnuts in the mix, and none of the main players are carrying this off. The story is rote, the acting shows, it all feels tired. Very, very tired. Sorry, but that’s the way it is.

  • Excellent!

This movie was sensitive but at the same time dramatic. You never knew which way it would go and the strife of family relationships were only to real. This movie proved that you don’t need action, blood and gore to capture my attention for over 2 hours

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!! A must watch, the acting is excellent and Robert Duvall should have won the Oscar for his performance, Robert Downey is also excellent, the chemistry between the two is fantastic.
