This was a brilliant end to the trilogy. I’ve not read the books yet but going off this movie the books should be amazing. This is a great movie plus the many hours of extras ie behind the scenes stuff make it worth the price. I got the 3 movie package in a sale for £15 but would’ve definitely paid the £25 for the trilogy package due to the extensive extra scenes plus the double digit amount of behind the scene extras itunes has.

The first two Lord of the Rings films, the Fellowship of the Ring and the Two Towers, where just amazing. They stuck to the story and, yeah, they were just amazing! However, the Return of the King was rushed and strayed far from J.R.R. Tolkien’s storyline. Many pieces were missed, such as: the houses of healing and Faramir and Éowyn’s love, the whole bit at the end where the hobbits return to find the Shire under the rule of Saruman, the bit on the way to Mount Doom where Frodo and Sam have to march with Orcs, and l also think that the part where Sam rescues Frodo from the Orcs, after being stung by Shelob, should’ve been longer and more dramatic as it was in the book. I think that the producers should’ve taken longer on the Return of the King to ensure that everything important was included.l highly recommend the first two films but I was disappointed by the Return of the King.Thankyou for reading this.

It is trully heartbreaking to assign this as 3 stars, as the film is magnificent in every way. This is my all time favourite film (and incidentally, book) but it is missing the hours of true Middle Earth beauty! I already have the DVDs, Blu-Rays, special collects editions etc, but I wanted this so I didnt have to cart those around with me everywhere. Dissapointed doesn't even cover it. Sort it out, iTunes. As per, you have made a pig's ear out of the whole affair, and charged me a pretty premium for the 'joy' too.

I am waiting for the box set. At my age and the speed at which itunes works I reckon it may be the last film I watch on this earth. I will console myself by watching my extended box set on the telly!!!!!
  • MIssing most of the extras that are contained on the Blu-ray/DVD versions

Cannot recommend this until they update and add the appendices missing from the other media versions. Shocking that they can continue to do this when the Hobbit extended edition contains the same extras as the Blu-ray. Avoid until updated...

The only true version but sadly missing the hours of appendices which made the physical extended editions so special and famous. Film 10/10. Extras 0/0.
