Description

Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson returns to Middle-earth with the final of three films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's enduring masterpiece. Set in Middle-earth 60 years before the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy, the adventure follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of dwarves on a journey into wild, treacherous lands swarming with beasts of every ilk. After reaching Erebor and encountering the dragon Smaug, Five Armies assemble for an epic battle that could decide the future of all in Middle-earth. The Extended Edition film is 19 minutes longer with new and extended scenes, not seen in the theatrical release.

Why is this separate from my version? Why can’t I upgrade to the extended version instead of having to buy the whole movie again...

The only bit that got to me was the opening scenes as it wasn't longer with Smaug being killed straight away again which is a shame but still a great ending to the films love it

  • Truly awful

It's hard to fathom how the man behind the largely wonderful (Legolas aside) adaptations of LOTR could also put together this brainless, stretched to breaking point trilogy of tedious rubbish. Having suffered through the first two I found the third to be by far the worst. It's little more than a single, massively extended action sequence filled with terrible CGI. Having exhausted The Hobbit's slender plot in the previous two movies, Jackson has nothing left for this, so we get what feels like a month's worth of weightless CG orcs hitting things. It's truly awful and quite possibly the most boring movie in years. Avoid at all costs.

Seems that this has been pushed back from Oct 21st to Nov 23rd. Not a great move, seeing as an early release was one of the benefits of buying this digitally.

To all those looking at the release date i’ve been thinking the same thing- done some digging around and it turns out the digital version along with the physical copies will be released in the uk on November 23rd! a whole month after the US!

After half an hour on the phone, which followed about 10 attempts to contact Apple Customer Service, they finally admitted that it should have been released and hasn't been, as if I didn't know. Their advice was to keep checking, without giving me any hint on when they might do their jobs. Anyone know any other way to get a digital copy, since itunes can't figure it out?

Why is this still showing as a pre-order? It was released digitally yesterday, the 20th, but UK iTunes still doesn’t have it available for download yet! Seriously frustrating.

I have the other 2 extended versions of the Hobbit, so great to see this one is coming out. Would love all of the extended versions of Lord Of The Rings to be release too.
