Description

Roger Greenberg (Stiller) is single, fortyish and deliberately doing nothing. In search of a place to restart his life, he agrees to housesit for his brother in LA and tries to reconnect with his former bandmate (Rhys Ifans) and successful ex-girlfriend (Jennifer Jason Leigh). But old friends aren't necessarily still best friends, and Greenberg soon finds himself forging a connection with his brother's personal assistant, Florence (Greta Gerwig). Despite his best attempts not to be drawn in, Greenberg comes to realize that he may at last have found a reason to be happy. Critics rave, “Greenberg has a soul, a heart and a sense of humor.” (Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com)

Brilliantly artistic…still funny, but the stiller I never knew.
  • Good if you're feeling patient.

Great to see Stiller do something straight. Greta Gerwig is brilliant. The are some nice themes, it has an intelligent pace, with lots of potential. But ultimately it abandons its potential to become a predictable wish-fulfilment fantasy for disastrous middle aged men.
  • Marvelous film.

The acting from Stiller and Gerwig is wonderful, the writing is beautiful; it is sometimes heart-breaking, but this film is a wonderful piece of work. If you love indie films, this is worth your time.

Ok this is a dark comedy. Don't watch it expecting Ben Stiller to be acting like he does in Dodge Ball, it's not that sort of film. Stiller plays a social misfit revisiting the place of his youth, Hollywood, the city of dreams, except that his and his friends dreams turned to nothing due to Stiller's rash actions. This film is not conventional, there's no plot or beginning middle or end, but that's its charm, you get to see glimpse into an interesting moment of the life of an otherwise unremarkable character. Great performance by Ben Stiller.
  • Fabulously gritty.

This is a great movie. The humour is whimsically dour, the lead characters awkward vulnerability simultaneously frustrating and endearing. Loved it.

I have tried 3 times to get this review down & each time iTunes looses it! so, straight to the point:- It's an awful, boring, pointless film. I would love to get my money back. NOT a comedy, at all. Despite Ben Stiller and Rhys Ifans NO COMEDY. other reviews say interesting, deep, pathos, don't listen. It was listed as a comedy, that means laughing and grinning most of the time, it means coming away with extra years on your life - NOT this film, it has wasted precious moments of mine.
