Description

"There's no place like home..." Entirely remastered, the colorful characters and unforgettable songs of Oz come alive as never before. This magical cinematic event finds Kansas farm girl Judy Garland ("A Star is Born," "Meet Me in St. Louis") caught in a tornado and magically transported to the Land of Oz. Needing help to return home, she is told to follow the Yellow Brick Road and find the powerful Wizard (Frank Morgan). On her perilous journey, she is befriended by the Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), the Tin Man (Jack Haley), and the Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr) who help her battle the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton) and her flying monkeys. Based on the classic book by Frank L. Baum, "The Wizard of Oz" is a dazzling motion picture achievement, featuring unforgettable songs (including Oscar-winner "Over the Rainbow"), scenery, and costumes. The film had 5 Academy Award nominations, and Garland was awarded a special Oscar for her outstanding performance.

This film honestly surprised me. I never got around to watch it, yet I knew the story, due to the amount of parodys. But after buying the DVD and watching it, I must say that this a great, feel good movie. It takes me back to my childhood of those wonderful, colourful moments as a kid. I really love the characters in this, all are likeable, especially Dorothy, who is just a funny, sweet, awkward, yet charming girl. The story is simple, yet enjoyable and the songs are very catchy. 79 years later and the effects still look impressive. The landscape and environment scenes look beautiful and colourful. Even the props look decent, considering it was made nearly 80 years ago. The only problem I have with this film is the pricing for the digital download versions. Now, I brought the DVD at CEX and it only cost me ยฃ2.50. I can watch this film over and over again. The rented version is ยฃ3.49 and it cost ยฃ10 to own digital. THAT IS CRAZY. Apple and other digital download stores can truly be disgusting sometimes with these outrages prices. But the DVD or Blu-ray as you will get a better experience. But overall, I truly love this film and 100% recommend it to kids and adults alike. ๐Ÿ˜

I did see Wizard Of Oz in Bognor Regis' Alexandra Theatre in 2011, The truth is.. I cried at the end very hard (First of all, It's none of your damn business overall where I cry so hard rarely nowadays.) This movie is heartwarming as well, Makes you cry every time Judy Garland starts to sing, Auto-tune is barely here yet that time whereas it was filmed in the 1930s. Dominique Simpson & Chelsie Padley's best portrayal ever in theatre history. Toto was played by a cute dog named Milo.

Er, obviously the film is great but thereโ€™s clearly some cropping shenanigans going on if this is being presented in widescreen. Iโ€™ll go with the Blu-ray, thanks. Three stars for sitting between a classic movie and an inaccurate presentation.
  • Excellent film that's sadly overpriced !

The Wizard of Oz is a timeless classic that's even after viewing loads of times is still worth watching again and again.. it's aged well has a great story, acting, music and style. It's on TV on a yearly basis and I'd still picked it up for my iTunes collection but at ยฃ9.99 no not for a 75 year old film !? I think iTunes needs to go looking at prices on older titles a ยฃ6 maximum price on this would be far more realistic.
  • Expensive

Like most old content on iTunes. Way way way too overpriced, when Tesco, Asda or Sainsburys have the films in their bargain bins for a couple of quid.
