Description

Academy Award®-winner Russell Crowe leads an all-star cast, including Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams & Helen Mirren in the gripping thriller about deception, manipulation & corruption. When D.C. Reporter Cal McCaffrey (Crowe) is assigned to investigate the murder of an assistant to an up-and-coming politician (Affleck), he uncovers a conspiracy that threatens to bring down the nation's power structures. In a town of spin-doctors and wealthy power brokers, he will discover one truth: when fortunes are at stake, no one's integrity, love or life is safe. From director Kevin Macdonald of The Last King of Scotland, State of Play brings together strong performances, riveting suspense and is "sophisticated, intelligent and powerful" (Shawn Edwards, Fox-TV).

Good plot that has some surprising turns, worth watching, although is starting to show its age slightly

Not as good as the BBC TV series but … not as bad as I though it would have been. As a fan of the original BBC TV series, and one who yearns for a second series, one can not but compare the two. Helen Mirren steals the film with her performance and is an excellent ‘replacement’ for Bill Nighy. The other actors all seem to put in creditable performances and the story is suspenseful and just the right pace. One minor complaint there is a bit too much whispering in dark rooms. It might have looked good in the script and on set but please lighten sets and speak a little louder so we don’t have to rewind or use subtitles! Anyway, four stars had I not seen the original so only three.

Good film, quite gripping and the first hour is immense, probably 6 out of 5, Ben Affleck wasn't really convincing in the second half although picked up late on If you like Spy game, enemy of the state, body of lies, house of cards.... You'll like this, worth a purchase

The concept is great, unfortunately it was done MUCH better in the UK as a TV mini-series with performances by actors such as Bill Nighy, John Simm, Kelly McDonald and even James McAvoy. If you want to watch this story, buy the TV mini-series instead.

Good story and well casted characters. The film is a great watch, however because its a thriller type film you may not find this to be one to watch again and again I would reccomend to anyone who likes thriller/crime books or films and has a few pounds to spare

It's a good film with an under rated performance from Russell Crowe. Whoever said this is hard to follow must be the STUPIDEST person in HISTORY.

A very good film indeed. Not to haevy, well written, well acted and enough suspense and action with a touch of class and intelligenece to keep you glued to the very end. Russell Crowe is excellent once again, but it was the old Dame herself, Helen Mirren who steals the show here yet again. I loved her performance. The only let down in this fine cast was Mr Ben Affleck. I think you should stick to directing Mr. A. You're much better at it (Go see: Gone Baby Gone if you have'nt......First Class!!). Overall, a damn fine film. Go watch it!
