Description

From executive producer Ridley Scott comes a sweeping, action-packed saga of epic battles, political intrigue and forbidden passion, set in a time when the lines between heroism and savagery were etched in fire and carved out with broadswords. After the fall of Rome, visionary warlord Marke (Rufus Sewell) seeks to unite the squabbling English tribes to form one strong nation and defeat brutal Irish King Donnchadh. But when Lord Marke's greatest and most loyal knight, Tristan (James Franco), falls in love with Isolde (Sophia Myles), a beautiful Irish woman, it threatens to destroy the fragile truce and ignite a war. In the spirit of Braveheart and A Knight's Tale, Tristan and Isolde is a rousing tale of trust and treachery that will leave you breathless!

Could have been quite good, but is full of nonsense. Set in the Dark Ages (not even the Middle Ages) and she's reading books of poetry about two hemispheres? They didn't have many books, most couldn't read and didn't even know that the world was round. Its OK if you want a bit of a romantic story without using any brain cells to consider the plausibility of any of the storyline or settings and costumes. Very disappointed that Ridley Scott had anything to do with it - I would have expected a better quality production.

Such a beautiful epic and romantic legend ! Having never heard of the story before this, I wasn't sure what to expect when I watch it with a friend, but it really is worth a look!! We both loved it ! Shame it was not better known at the box office. I strongly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a timeless romance "à la" romeo and Juliet or Lancelot and Guinevere.

An unexpectedly lovely version of this medieval romance. The story is set at the beginning of the fall of Rome as an empire, and the action takes place just after the Romans have left Britain. The tribal Britons are left fending for themselves. Rufus Sewell is excellent in his portrayal of the warlord Marke and is really impressive in his depiction of a betrayed husband. James Franco is less well cast as Tristan. Sophia Myles is perfect as Isolde. This story is about love, betrayal and duty. An excellent film.
