Description

Jon Finch, Alec McCowen and Barry Foster star in this morbid blend of horror and wit-the first Hitchcock film to earn an 'R' rating. The Necktie Murderer has the London Police on red alert, and an innocent man is on a desperate quest to find the real serial rapist-murderer and clear his own name. Alternating heart-pounding tension with distinctive Hitchcock humor, Frenzy marked the Master of Suspense's return to his native England after almost twenty years.

Gripping, great suspense - holds you til the last minute. Movie making at its very best.

Everyone above is correct, this is one of Hitchcock's best, although I'm not sure what younger (under 30) audiences might make of it… Who cares, they tend to switch off after 15 minutes if a plot needs to develop, or if there's no CGI..! This film is expertly handled, and Hitchcock retains his ability to press the required buttons in his audience's psyche. The audience is Hitchcock's adversary or opponent, whom he must thrill or lose the game. But he cleverly triumphs every time, and here is no different. In fact his victory is even more complete on this occasion than perhaps any other, because he takes us right to the edge of what is digestible viewing but remains on the safe side of Freudian analysis. What a genius the little corpulent man was, my word there are none like him today… An almost forgotten pearl indeed!

Hitch's penultimate movie and his first to be made in the UK in decades, Frenzy is often overlooked. And like Marnie it is often underrated. But for me it's one of his best movies. In fact, I think it's his best movie since North By Northwest - and, yes, that means I place it higher than Psycho or The Birds. It contains at least three of his most audacious scenes and is also his most explicit and violent movie. But it is never gratuitous. A superb and disturbing thriller.

Hitchcoks best ever thriller. Gripping serial killer film. The Inspectors wife and her cooking are priceless and the gallows humour top class.
