Description

From Academy Award-winning director Oliver Stone ("Any Given Sunday," "Platoon") comes this epic story of Alexander the Great, the King of Macedonia and one of the greatest military leaders in the history of warfare, who over an eight year period managed to conquer 90% of the known world of his time by age 25. This story chronicles Alexander's path to becoming a living legend, from a youth fueled by dreams of myth, glory, and adventure, to his intense bonds with his closest companions, to his lonely death as a ruler of a vast empire - an incredible story of a life that united the Known World and proved that, if nothing else, fortune favors the bold. Starring Colin Farrell ("S.W.A.T.," "Minority Report"), Academy Award-winners Angelina Jolie ("Tomb Raider" 1 and 2, "Girl, Interrupted") and Anthony Hopkins ("Hearts in Atlantis," "Hannibal"), Val Kilmer ("Spartan," "Heat"), Jared Leto ("Panic Room," "Fight Club") and Rosario Dawson ("Sin City," Men In Black II").

Only reason to watch this film is for Angelina. Save yourself the money and just take a 3 hour nap. Much more enjoyable. Shocking film!

I dont know where the bad reviews have came from? This film is amazing and like the guy below me says is one as close to history as none other. One person even refered to the characters int he film as "roman", when they are infact greek and macedonian... So with people giving it a bad review who dont have a clue... dont bother listening to them. Great film if you are interested in the history and dont mind the 3 hours :) keeps you entertained.

Good film, enthralling from start to finish. Don't give a damn about the accents, and anyone who says they're a problem is a complete, utter, total MORON. Who cares if he has an Irish accent, he wasn't ever going to do an authentic Macedonian one was he? Why no complaints about the other accents? They're not authentic either. This is a film not a documentary, it tells a story BASED on reality, It isn't itself reality, and I think it does it in an entertaining and intellegent way.

Not only is this film extremely boring(Three hours!!!)it has awful casting. For example,Colin Farrell makes Alexander an irishman with a dodgy wig.Angelina Jolie is apparently well and truly old enough looking to play a fully grown Colin Farrell's mother, and Jared Leto should really lay off the guyliner and stick to singing. It is simply a bad film, but if you fancy a laugh at Mr Farrells hair i reccomend it.Romans.Are.So.Camp!!

It was sad to see colin farrell play a character he didnt even have to change his accent for and still be terrible in every way! A truly awful, awful film. Yeah, and what was with the irish accents? I didnt realise Dublin had a twin city in Macedonia 2,000 years ago...
  • GREAT FILM, but...

Well my Ipod didn't come on and but showed that it needed to go to the computer, I hooked it up but because THIS FILM had been LOST without me doing anything I have now lost my money, well thanks Itunes, your very nice, you lot should be sued, because your never going to give this movie to me, and if you want proof, here: Alexander as a boy training (wrestling) in a place with his future commanders, he calms this Black (not being racist) horse and rides it until it gets killed when fighting the Indian king who betrays him because the Macidonians were allowed to settle in the kings palace but Alexander kills one of his commanders there because he mocks him, and no I haven't seen it anywere else!, thanks for stealing my money

This is a sprawling and crawling film, but it is watchable for the instances of battling, galloping, merry making and high dramatics. If you have a couple of hours to fill, you won't be totally bored if you watch this. Historically accurate? It's all academic anyway. Who really knows what truly happened in the past? It's all personal perspective anyway. It doesn't pretend to be a history documentary, does it? As long as it's believable and engaging, does it matter? Enjoyable? It has it's moments . It is an epic . It definately does not need to be any longer-if anything it could be better scripted, more tightly shot and a good deal shorter. No way should any film be over three hours-you will get cramp in your buttocks if you watch a 3 hour film at the cinema. I enjoyed Colin Farrell'S acting , but Colin-'step away from the peroxide'.He looks like he's been plopped on by a custard munching eagle. On the whole if you don't expect too much, watch it-you won't be disappointed.

I disagree with the people who gave this fim 1 star. It captured my attention throughout the duration. The one niggle I had throughout was that Colin Farell's irish accent kept on making appearances during certain dialogue. If you like films like Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, Master & Commander, then you will like this one. Give it a whirl.
