Description

Nominated for 6 Academy Awards; director Mike Nichols' witty, romantic look at life in the corporate jungle stars Melanie Griffith as Tess McGill, an ambitious secretary with a unique approach for climbing the ladder to success. When her classy, but villainous boss (Sigourney Weaver) breaks a leg skiing, Tess takes over her office, her apartment, and even her wardrobe. She then creates a deal with a handsome investment banker (Harrison Ford) that will either take her straight to the top - or finish her off for good.

It's a fantastic, feel-good movie. Sigourney Weaver is excellent as the evil business woman patronising her subordinates and lording it over Tess, her hardworking secretary. Lots of classic cinematic one-liners to bring a smile. Melanie Griffiths and Harrison Ford are ace. It's a proper 80s Cinderella business story.

The two themes of this film are the lowly worker moving up the company through hard grift and determination, and secondly the anthemic "Let the river run", which plays through thefilm, in a variety of styles. There is a contrast between the haves and have nots in the business world, shown by the modes of travel, the type of party attendedf and the quality and style of clothing. A masterpiece of the 80's.
