Description

When two American sisters become caught up in the intimate intrigue of Paris, cultures and human passions collide. Le Divorce follows the journey of Isabel Walker (Kate Hudson), a quintessential young Californian newly arrived in the City of Light to visit her pregnant sister, Roxanne (Naomi Watts). A darkly romantic poet, Roxy has just been jilted by her scoundrel husband, Charles-Henri de Persand, and it appears they are headed for "le divorce." Meanwhile, Isabel finds herself falling for a married French diplomat who just happens to be the uncle of Roxy's soon-to-be-ex! Based on the best-selling novel by Diane Johnson, Le Divorce is a new twist on the classic American-in-Paris theme.

Pretty good movie and very entertaining. If only there were only more like this. Naomi Watts and Kate Hudson. It's clever, it's cool and most of all it's chic. It's James Ivory, hey?!

I would say some of the reviews do this film not the right justice. I would not call this film brilliant, but the storyline has its merits and I could watch it until its end.

Oh, I love love LOVE this film! One of my very favourites. It's beautiful, funny and sweet. It's a very enjoyable film and nicely acted.
  • Disappointment all round

Lazy, cliched plotting, clumsy dialog (in two languages!) and a compete failure to build empathy with any of the characters. I had to stop watching after 30min. What a waste of such a hugely talented cast.
  • Pointless stream of consciousness

The film wanders through the lives of the players in a way that brings no substance to any of their characters and so a random series of events flow from the screen writers keyboard onto the screen. By the end I couldn't have cared whether any of the charcters lived or died. Poor script, inept editing, good cast, waste of everyone's time.

I am afraid this is the second time I try to see this film and second time I don't finish watching it. It is some sort of hybrid between American and French film making which does not work, no depth in exploring relations and feelings, moves from cliche to cliche, barbie dolls as actresses... In three words: boring and uninteresting.
