Think the bad comments are from people that forget this is a 1998 film. Nothing bad to be said about this film at all. Better than the 2nd film, definitely worth watching, I have brought it so I can watch again in a few months and its very x files.

this is the first of the two x files films so far (there are rumours of a third film but so far nothing concrete) and was made during the hiatus of season four, but set after season five. After season five the show moved production from vancouver (where they returned to make the more low key, less summer blockbuster-y second film i want to believe) to california. i enjoyed the film in cinema on it's release in 1997 and have watched multiple times since, and enjoyed each viewing. The plot itself is not that convoluted or complicated to follow, though there are some layers that fans and geeks (hiya!) will notice more than the casual viewer, but the film is set up and made to be completely accessible to those who don't know the whole history of the show. that whole thing of the x files having massively complicated plots doesn't apply here, and while not everything is explained that's just the nature of intrigue and mystery stories, expecially when they continue for years more (alas even as a devotee it went on a couple of seasons too long, no mulder - c'mon!). That said this story was made and set at a good point in the show's run. long story short, a good piece of intrugue and adventure, well worth a look for anyone who liked the show, not too over blown for the big screen, yet not too myopic a vision for the big screen. good job everyone, expecially mr bowman.
