Description

This is the third film based on Tom Clancy's high-tech espionage potboilers starring CIA deputy director Jack Ryan. Harrison Ford, returning to the Ryan role after his first go-round in 1992's Patriot Games, is assigned to a delicate anti-drug investigation after a close friend of the President (a Reaganesque Donald Moffat) is murdered by a Colombian drug cartel. When Ryan discovers that the President's wealthy friend was in league with the cartel, the President's devious national security adviser (Harris Yulin) and an ambitious CIA deputy director (Henry Czerny) send a secret paramilitary force into Colombia to wipe out the drug lords. The force is captured and then abandoned by the President's lackeys. It falls to Ryan to enter Colombia and rescue them, aided only by a renegade operative named Clark (Willem Dafoe), with both his life and career on the line.

An excellent movie, and second only to Tom Clancy's Sum of all Fears, good script, fast paced and plenty of action, there is plenty of drama and narrative to keep the true spy - conspiracy fan content. James Earl Jones gives the movie further gravitas, as does his situation.

Tom Clancy's books have been the basis for some of my most enjoyed films i have ever seen, and this is no exception. If you have seen "The Hunt For Red October" and or "The Sum Of All Fears". Then you should definatly watch this, it has a strong and intriguing plot, Effective actors and a message about integrity. Harrison Ford and Willem Dafoe masterfully play their parts and James Earl Jones adds to the group of amazing actors. If you are looking for an action film with thought this is for you.

This is a great film, only just better than Patriot Games, and is very faithful to the book. It has a great story dealing with corruption in the White House that is believeable and includes lot's of action as Harrison Ford has to pick up the pieces of a botched revenge mission ordered by the President that sees US Marines sent into South America to attack a drugs baron who are then abandoned. The only down side is that the cost of this film is staggering considering it can be bought for little more than £3 nowaday and you have it on disc. You don't even own the copyright after downloading to put it on DVD. Until Apple make the prices a little fairer I can't see their UK film section doing as good as it could. Great film but bad price.
