  • Inherit the wind, Hollywood biased but close to reality

In response to another's single star rated review, since when has Hollywood ever been unbiased or accurate. The story follows very closely the historical events in the trial itself especially in regards to actual dialogue taken from the real trial and used in the movie. "Do you ever think about things that you do think about?" As an example. There are some blatant inaccuracies over the events in general and yes the church is shown as bigoted and the Darwinists are shown as honourable and right. All that said this is a brilliant all time classic movie where Spencer Tracy is at his best and Fredric March almost stole the show. The message it pushes of a Man's right to freedom of thought is well represented and still extremely relevant today. 5stars all day long.
  • Twisted dramatisation of the scopes trial

Inherit the Wind is not a documentary, but it is perceived by many viewers to be a documentary–drama of the famous 1925 Scopes ‘monkey’ trial. There is considerable evidence that the play and film are not simply inaccurate, but rather are highly biased in their intent. The historical inaccuracies are systematic and of a kind that presents a consistent bias of slanderous proportions against people who believe the Biblical account of creation. The evidence suggests that the inaccuracies in the play and film Inherit The Wind are substantive, intentional and systematic. Christians, and particularly William Jennings Bryan, are consistently lampooned throughout the play, while sceptics and agnostics are portrayed as intelligent, kindly, and even heroic. I cannot escape the conclusion that the writers of Inherit The Wind never intended to write a historically accurate account of the Scopes trial, nor did they seriously attempt to portray the principal characters and their beliefs in a fair and accurate way.

Creation vs Evolution. A local school teacher is taken to court for pushing the Darwin theory. Excellent courtroom case with Spencer Tracy defending and Frederick March as the Biblical mayor trying to fight an age-old argument. As the case unravels, there are more questions than answers but a compelling and thought provoking movie all the same. Gene kelly makes a small appearance in a not often seen serious role.
