I only really watched this film because of it frequently being mentioned by the marvellous Gene Hunt in Life on Mars, but after viewing the film, I can understand the character's enthusiasm. This film is truly a masterpiece and has introduced me to other Westerns.

I only became aware of this film because of the formidable Gene Hunt, but having seen it for myself I can say that this film is truely special. Gary Cooper is incredible in this and then Lee van Cleef (For a few dollars more) making a cameo tops it off. Brilliant!

Brilliant! This film is such as masterpiece it hardly requires a review. Gary Cooper recieved an Acadamy Award for his performance in this film and never has one been more deserved. A great and original story line builds up to possibly the best and most famous shootouts in cinima history. This films deserves its place as one of the finest and most acclaimed westerns of all time. PURE MOVIE MAGIC! And watch out for an early performance from Lee Van Cleef from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly!
