Description

When a break in at S.T.A.R. Labs leads to a secret dossier being stolen by the gruesome duo of Poison Ivy and Floronic Man (Jason Woodrue); it’s a green light for crime and mayhem. With both The Dark Knight and Nightwing on the case, they look to a certain wild card for help, Harley Quinn! Recently released from Arkham Asylum and trying to acclimate to life out of the supervillain spotlight, Harley finds herself suiting up and mouthing off once again. So pucker up puddin’, Kevin Conroy, Melissa Rauch, and Loren Lester highlight a stellar cast in this action-packed adventure filled with hi-speed chases, brawlin’ bad guys and who knows, maybe even Batman will have a good time!

This was such a disappointment. Through trying to please fans of the Batman Animated Series, Adam West's 1960's Batman, and Manga. In the process they've created a film where the humorous bits are just awkward, the action scenes are embarrassing and the storyline lacks any flow.

Like other reviewers, I have incredibly fond memories of Batman: The Animated Series whilst growing up and I loved the idea of a new film set in that universe, underneath Gotham’s livid but somehow romantic dark red night sky. This film has its moments, the best being Kevin Conroy and Loren Lester returning as Batman and Nightwing respectively. Melissa Rauch is, agreed, a fantastic Harley Quinn and one of the few who actually seems capable enough to step into Arleen “Real Harley” Sorkin’s shoes. Pager Brewster was also excellent as Poison Ivy (I love her spaced out scene with Kevin Michael Richardson’s Jason Woodrue). But overall, this is just played for laughs...only a few of which really work. However, even though the karaoke sequence was overlong and unnecessary, it is great to see so many of the classic henchmen getting together for a rave. This version of Harley was done so much better in the original animated series, so much so that the plot is so glaringly reminiscent of “Harlequinade” that I was convinced just to go back and watch that again afterwards. It was much more satisfying! But I’d love to see Melissa Rauch in particular come back as Harley Quinn again.

When I first saw the first few seconds of the film, brilliant back to the Batman TAS but then the humour kicked in and I thought brilliant back to the Batman The Bbrave And The Bold. If you are a fan of either or both, then you will love this film from the begtinning to the end. And like the Marvel film franchise you ge tthe mid credit clip and the end credit clip which are both quite funny. I just might go and buy this film and have a giggle at it again, again, again.....

The moment this movie starts with a vision of a police blimp in the dark deco skies, I thought "Great, we're back in the Batman Animated Series," but soon things started to go awry. As you'd expect, in a film with Harley Quinn, there was comedy, but unfortunately it was played far too often. Scenes with Harley Quinn flatulating and seducing Nightwing were, to put it mildly, awkward. There was a seedy chauvenism to the depiction of both Harley and Ivy, and Harley herself is utterly objectified. I don't have a problem with women being sexy, and played better her seduction scene may have worked. Unfortunately, it just came off as creepy and wrong. Harley in the original BTAS was a depiction of an abusive relationship and was never characterised as overly sexualised, while this movie plays up the way that the character has been developed over the years, rather than sticking or reverting to her core character. Poor Kevin Conroy as a Batman gets little to do and is wasted in the movie. Melissa Rauch is actually a fantastic Harley, and brings something new to the characterisation. Similarly, Paget Brewster emulates Diane Purshing's Ivy but brings something unique to the part. Both actresses were great in their roles. Highlights are Harley's acrobatics. Lows are an overly protracted fight sequence at the end. While it is lovely to see the look and feel of my beloved BTAS, the gynophobia, and over reliance on comedy are far too detracting. I honestly would rate this lower if I did not have so much affection for these characters and nostalgia for the original Batman Animated Series. A wasted opportunity, when similar ideas were explored much better in "Harley's Holiday"
