If you like thrillers, more often than not, you tend to be dissapointed. If you're lucky, it's well made. If you're really lucky, then it will have good actors who make you care about what is going to happen to the people in peril. And if you're extra lucky, it's actually going to be suspenseful. The Shallows has all of these, so in my book it's a bit of a modern classic. It helps that the director shoots it all with real flair, and it uses every trick in the book-GoPro’s, wides, closeups, dollies, handheld to keep us on our toes. There is a real sense of danger, and I won't spoil anything by saying how, but the film already goes the extra mile in the first encounter. There are also epic shots you just don't expect from a film which boils down to a woman, a shark, a rock and a suprisingly likeable seagull. Sharks and what we can't see under the water are innately frightening, but what really helps this film get to 5 stars for me is Blake Lively's performance, because in order for us to really be scared, we really have to care, and the film rests on her shoulders because of that. The movie is 80% her face, right up close. Of course it doesn't hurt that she is incredibly, naturally beautiful and physically fit, but it's her acting that brings the character's resourcefulness, humour, vulnerability, intelligence, and strength alive, and you are rooting for every moment, even when the film sort of jumps the shark at the end. These sorts of mid-range films are rare nowadays, which makes it that little bit more special for me. Enjoy!

The Shallows is a tense watch that has the best shark CGI In a movie. All the people who say this movie is bad are pathetic as the only reason they say that is because it isn’t jaws, I love jaws but I agree that “this is the best shark movie since jaws”. Blake Lively does a very good job in this movie and this is definitely one of her better roles. A fun watch that will keep you on the edge of your seat. If I had to rate this movie it would be a B+ or A-

Just watched this movie loved the suspense. Great actress especially playing the movie on her own for the most part. Never heard of this movie today was a great one time watch
