First of, that Quicksilver scene was just MIND-BLOWING. I didn’t watch this in the cinema, because of the mixed reviews. So I ended up avoiding it. But with Logan coming up, I decided to give it a watch and was stunned by how good it was. It was no where near as epic as Days of Future Past, but it was a lot better than I expected. I was just so shocked by how good it was l, I regretted not seeing it in the cinema. But after rewatching it again, I can now see the faults of it and understand why it got mixed reviews. Although the cast, VFX and cinematography was amazing, the whole plot for apocalypse was just, urrrrr. It was so uninteresting and predictable, at some parts, I thought I was watching Braden Frazier’s Mummy trilogy. It was just so corny. Everything else was good. Not great, just good. But I do recommend this film. P.S. I was very shocked and grateful to find out they are making another X-Men film set 10 years after Apocalypse, so I’m really happy about that. Hopefully, it will be amazing. :)

Apocalypse is the X-Men’s greatest foe, yet the movie doesn’t cast him as such. Oscar is a good actor, but the film isn’t true to his character—he’s more of a smooth-talking villain than an outright merciless, survival-of-the-fittest mutant. Oscar is way too small in stature to play him, so he think the casting was way off base. Some of the characters are criminally underused (Psylocke and Archangel), and although most of the special effects are excellent, some of the sets are so blatantly obviously a sound stage, it’s embarrassing. The story is good, but it could’ve been a lot better. Quicksilver’s rescue scene is also quite poor, as it’s just an obvious attempt to repeat his scene-stealer in Days of Future Past.

Gave up watching this part way through - honestly one of the worst superhero films I have seen. No redeeming features at all. The other X-Men films are good this is what one might have feared Hollywood would make if they chose badly in all departments - director, writer, casting etc. I wish I hadn't even seen what I did! 👎

Golly, and here we hit the stage too far for the Xmen movies. I like all the previous movies. This was just a mess.

I keep buying these X-Men films out of some sort of loyalty to the Marvel franchise, but really, they're just a bit tedious & overblown. First Class & The Wolverine aside, the rest of the X-Movies just merge into a massive homogenised glob of yada yada yada. With timelines being rewritten left, right & centre, the changes/updates to the characters' back stories mean you lose any sense of giving a fig about them or even whether they live or die or other. The new actors are often just caricaturing the original actors more than playing/developing the characters the original actors portrayed. ...oh, & the 'funny' lines somewhat clumsily wedged into the script rarely worked. Maybe it's time this particular branch of the Marvel family tree was left to rest in peace?
