Description

A stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Kurt Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie's Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Demian Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Tim Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Michael Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Bruce Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…

Part western, part suspenseful 'who dunnit' this film is artfully constructed to draw you in. Great fun, a genuine cinematic treat. Attention span required. Update: Just watched for third time and only gets better. There's so much to discover within it.

This film is one of his best!!! It’s gripping and has a really detailed storyline with really interesting and well played characters. Ignore the people who have given this a bad review they either do not understand it or they have the attention span of a squirrel trying to chase nuts from a falling tree.

Having seen previous Tarantino movies, this was shot in Panavision using good old film. You can see the diference in the quality of Landscape and on the Actors. Its not in your face cristal clear, just has that Cinema appeal. The Movie itself is very good, But admitally should of been a 2 hour movie.

Ludicrously contrived and so desperate to be cool that normal storytelling has been replaced by farce. Mr T has literally lost the plot this time. All the western cliches one might expect are delivered by a dull mix of stock characters and the storyline is so utterly unconvincing that one experiences no curiosity regarding the outcome and less to the pretext as it emerges. Blazing Saddles is a far more believable film. For much of the long running time I found myself asking such questions as; “How come none of the actors have ever been taught how to use a hammer?”, and “How come the door is completely stormproof despite being full of holes?”, and “How amazing were those cleaning products available in the Old West?”. If you want a directionless vehicle for nasty violence which is void of imagination and demands nothing from the viewer then this may well be the film for you.

I read all the above reviews, I watched the youtube reviews, and I wasn't sure to take the chance to get this movie or not as there are so many negative reviews, however taking the plunge I have to say I fully enjoyed this, yes there were lots of long talking scenes, but they were part of the plot, building up the tension to the point the film explodes in blood. I don't know why Tarantino had to talk mid way through the film to explain what was happening because it seemed quite clear without him - I simply felt that spoilt the film very much and was stupid. That aside, it was brilliantly done! I wish I had not waited and had watched the movie when it first came out, but it is a film you can watch repeatedly, as the actors do great performances, at times beautifully overacted which suited each particular scene. Jennifer Jason Leigh out plays everyone!!! Damn, she deserved an oscar for her part. I watched Mark Kermode give his review of the film and I must say on this occassion I totally disagree with him. This really is a good film, it did not feel this was merely bits of other films. I would love to see Tarantino do more westerns, sadly, I doubt that will happen because everyone panned this one.

Great fan of his work but this has got be amongst my worst films ever list. Most scenes are ridiculously dragged out which ends up making the film so long. Mediocre predictable storyline with no shocks, suspense or surprises.

Anyone who gives this movie any less than 5 stars yet claims to be a 'Tarantino fan' is purely impatient. The first half is very slow (yet fascinating), but it's done breathtakingly, all building up to the fantastic second half. One of Quentin Tarantino's best ever.

Predictable tripe and about two hours too long.

I don't normally write reviews but was shocked by all the negative ones. I found it to be a beautifully suspensful and gripping film. It is a slow burner. and details are uncovered bit by bit. It's rich in subtext and the characters have such nuanced performances that you never know who's lying and who's telling the truth. People who said the plot was predictable surely are psychic or have just seen a lot of films of this style before. Besides what's exciting about this film isn't what happens, but deciphering why. Rich like a caramel crusted cake on a cold winter's night.
