Description

In the first chapter of the series that started a cultural phenomenon, Kirk, Spock, and McCoy project humanity into the 23rd century with compassion, boldness, and a curiosity to meet the unknown. For more than 40 years, viewers hungry for optimism have found inspiration from Gene Roddenberry's visionary allegory, hooked on the thought-provoking moral tales, the humor, the romance, the philosophy, and the inspired gadgetry aboard the first U.S.S. Enterprise. Now these remastered adventures look and sound even better than ever, with dozens of new and higher-detailed visual effects that blend seamlessly into the episodes you fondly remember.

The theme music at the beginning hasn't the kick of the original and the changes throughout take away the atmosphere the original had. Hate it! Get the original while you can.

Overall I’m pleased with how the remasters have turned out, they managed to resist the urge to change too much and have kept things mostly in-keeping with the original, iconic look of the series. However, I do have some criticisms of how Apple are distributing them. Given the price I would have expected access to the original versions of the episodes. The Blu-Ray releases allow you to switch between versions at will, and while I don’t expect seamless switching from iTunes I would at least expect to be allowed to download the original versions. Further, I wish the show was presented in production order rather than original broadcast order. While there is certainly some merit to experiencing the episodes in the order that original viewers saw (with the no-doubt confusing appearance of the second pilot as the third episode) it’s much more satisfying to watch the cast, sets, props and effects evolve as production continues. Finally, why is The Cage not included? It was originally released as part of Season 3 but none of the iTunes releases include it, which is a pretty unforgivable omission given that it was one of the best Classic Trek episodes.

I love Star Trek The Original Series, but this, they make all these edits to make it like the 2009 movie. Thumbs down.

My review is not about the show (I like it, why else would I download it), my review is about the Closed Captions (CC). I feel it is important that us deaf people should know if the television shows we download got CC or not, and how good the CC are. The CC on this is good, sometimes in rare moments when there's not enough to fit into one line, a word at the end of the line would be broken up and the rest of the word shows up on the next line, but otherwise good enough.
