Description

Harold Shand (Bob Hoskins) is a businessman with great ambitions. Spotting the development potential of London's derelict Docklands area years before the Thatcher government, he tries to broker a deal with his American counterpart (Eddie Constantine) that will make them both millions. But who is killing Harold's other associates and blowing up his businesses - and why? Universally regarded as one of the greatest gangster films ever made, The Long Good Friday rocketed Hoskins to international stardom. He's given sterling support from Helen Mirren (as his upper-crust girlfriend), Paul Freeman (Raiders of the Lost Ark) and Derek Thompson (Casualty), and there's even an early appearance from future James Bond Pierce Brosnan.

I bought this on iTunes ages ago. It’s not in my library anymore but available to buy for £2.99. You’re robbing me, this keeps happening.

Great classic British gangster film, great quality picture and stereo sound, most discs are mono for some reason, for how old this is it’s aged well

This was a really good film. I grew up in the 1980s in England, this brought back a lot of memories of the way the world was back then compared to now. The one things that makes this whole movie worthwhile is the ending, I'd highly recommend it for that alone!

But check out Helen Mirren on the cover artwork lol, looks more like Eileen off coronation street ffs haha. Anyway enough of that, this film is the top gangster film maybe of all time, check it out if you haven't seen it before, and RIP Bob Hoskins, great acting in this film

Great movie staring Bob Hoskins, recently snubbed at the British film awards. Shoot the artist who painted Helen Mirren on the cover artwork - yes that is HELEN MIRREN!

Bob Hoskins gives a tour-de-force performance as the London gangster boss who has obliterated his local opposition and reigns supreme but finds his organisation being attacked by an unseen enemy threatening his whole future. Beautifully captures London just as Margaret Thatcher came to power with Hoskins acting as a cipher for how she changed Britain and London into the powerhouse financial system it now is. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
