Description

This explosive, action-packed thrill-ride stars Sylvester Stallone and all The Expendables plus some exciting new recruits. Barney (Stallone) and The Expendables come face-to-face with Stonebanks, one of the original team members who became a ruthless arms dealer that Barney was forced to kill…or so he thought. When Stonebanks returns to destroy The Expendables, the latest mission becomes a clash of old-school style versus high-tech expertise in The Expendables' most personal battle yet.

This has to rank as one of the greatest missed opportunities in film, given the cast assembled. A formulaic plot, simply awful dialogue (it took THREE screenwriters to come up with THAT?) with flimsy character interaction that was mostly posturing machismo, and watery humour. Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and Lundgren creak around the set, and the 'new blood’ characters lack so much depth, they're little more than set dressing. The combat is well choreographed but, as usual these days, goes on for FAR too long with Stallone and crew predictably bullet/shrapnel/TANK proof while the opposing ARMY dies in swathes. Oddly, the film is partially redeemed by the performances of Antonio Banderas, Harrison Ford, Kelsey Grammer, and Mel Gibson (who show here what good actors can do even with a weak script).

Genius marketing to not make the 'unrated' version a rental, which most people frustrated with the 12 rating would then possibly buy.

The point of the Expendables and the reason why the first two movies did so well is because you have all these great action stars from the 80s and 90s together on the same screen. Who among us back in the day didn’t want to see Arnie and Sly on the same screen? Now the film contains people you are too young to have made any significant impact as action heroes at this stage. The plot and dialogue is just dreadful. Something you could forgive in the first films due to the amazing cast but now with the younger members of the team it just doesn’t work. Jet Li, once famed for his superb martial arts, doesn’t do any in this film. Instead he awkwardly fires a gun and looks very frightened doing so. But it’s not all bad. Antonio Banderas gives a super performance and it’s good to see both Mel Gibson and Wesley Snipes.

OK Hollywood, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH… Robocop 80’s gore classic, re-make… PG13 yeah that worked well. Miniguns that don’t make people bleed, with a cast of people who basically owned action films and carnage… What is this new Hollywood thing where there is no bloody in any movie, people don’t get hurt etc… It’s a load of crap… Should have been an 18… Getting fed up with it Hollywood….
