  • Not great but some positives

I think the review title pretty much sums it up. This is no Exorcist and is certainly not great, but it has a bit more going for it than other modern horrors. Bana is good as the lead character and there are little moments (for some reason I am thinking of the cop standing behind the screen, realising that he is about to watch an exorcism and reacting honestly) that prevents it from being the usual cliched affair. 5.5 out of 10.

Deliver Us From Evil was not a bad film. It had some good scare scenes, and a ok story. But the whole concept of the film is unoriginal. If you've seen any possession or exorcism film before, (which i am sure most people have), then you've seen this film. It doesn't add anything new or interesting the the horror genre, with the odd few good scares. But thats about it, if you have never seen any possession/exorcism film before, then you may love this, otherwise its not worth the time.

love it, nice to see Mr Bana doing what he does brilliantly, good story, and one of the better western horrors I've seen in a while
  • Almost laughable

This ruins my favourite genre, in fact every genre of film. It's such a poor imitation of all the classic horrors, at some points I thought it was a parody. Boring and painful to watch.
  • Not scary enough

Not a bad production. However, there are plenty of exorcism films out there and this outing does not offer anything new. At times the story feels disjointed and considering the lead character's family is involved, there is not enough menace (as in 'Sinister' or 'Insidious' for example). Although it is based on true events, the storyline has been completely changed. That is understandable since film directors are entitled to be creative, but unfortunately they did not go to town with this one. It's like a chilly with meat and very little chilly. Add a couple of stars to my rating of you don;t watch much horror films or indeed 'any' films, judging by some of the critique already posted: this film cost $30 million. Hardly a low-budget film! No excuses. They could have done so much more with it.

I rarely write reviews but having just seen this movie I have to say it is brilliant. Very well done. Probably the best of the exorcism movies I've ever seen. Great acting. Great effects not overdone or cheesy. Scary. 10/10. Watch it.

This film is not good. It starts off well but slowly becomes more and more implausible as it progresses. The usually solid Eric Banner has a shocker, with a performance that is both wooden and unbelievable and the pacing of the movie is all wrong. Disjointed and silly.....don't waste your time or money.
