  • Original, funny movie, with a great script

Lake Bell is a star! I loved this movie. If you love Woody Allen, or the Brothers McMullen, then you'll love it. It has pathos, a very sharp and well observed script and a comic drama driving it forward. It's so much better than 99% of the schlock coming out of Hollywood. Look out for Lake Bell, she's a great actress and writer/director.
  • Festival of neurotics

What looked it could be quirky and interesting, turns out to be self centerred neurotics with post feminist man wimps populating this film. Not worth the 5$ i psent, and the time i lost watching this.
  • Boring, a waste of a great idea

Yes original idea but after 30min I was watching the clock every 5min for it to end. Many characters are just plain annoying and much of the acting is contrived. I was so pleased to spot the great Nick Offerman (of Recreation Park fame) but he is just a wall flower and hardly audible when given something to say! It is a shame, can’t help but think what Woody Allen could have made of such premise but as it stands, it is below any Woody’s lamest attempts. A big fat waste of my time & money.

A novel subject this is a good film struggling to rise out of a flat dramatic story line. The characters act in a largely 'I'm so uncomfortable in this social setting' which becomes irritating. Is everyone like that in L.A? Can no one confidently meet a stranger or even a family member and engage in a reasonable conversation without being slightly manic in their behaviour? Woody Allen does this brilliantly. This doesn't. For a movie ostensibly about voice over and enunciation I found much of the dialogue hard to hear even with a decent sound system. Perhaps it's being a Brit that makes the accents difficult. Perhaps, but then I don't have that problem with most films. In the end the predictable Hollywood feel good resolution failed to lift the subject even with a last minute high five for feminism. Not really a comedy, not really a drama.

Self consciously hip and barely touches upon the actual business of voiceover work instead focusing on some irrelevant sub plots. The dialogue was pretty cringe worthy on occasion (If you've seen Juno you know what to expect)

Loved Lake Bell in Surface but this film was the height of boredom - and I was involved in voice overs!

I was uninspired by the trailer, but read a couple of good reviews and gave it a go. I didn’t regret it. This is a really great film. Unconventional and low key but really funny, with great characters, great dialogue and a very original, feel good story.
