Description

A fatherless teenager faces his moment of truth in THE KARATE KID. Daniel (Ralph Macchio) arrives in Los Angeles from the east coast and faces the difficult task of making new friends. However, he becomes the object of bullying by the Cobras, a menacing gang of karate students, when he strikes up a relationship with Ali (Elisabeth Shue), the Cobra leader's ex-girlfriend. Eager to fight back and impress his new girlfriend but afraid to confront the dangerous gang, Daniel asks his handyman Miyagi (Noriyuki 'Pat' Morita), whom he learns is a master of the martial arts, to teach him karate. Miyagi teaches Daniel that karate is a mastery over the self, mind, and body and that fighting is always the last answer to a problem. Under Miyagi's guidance, Daniel develops not only physical skills but also the faith and self-confidence to compete despite tremendous odds as he encounters the fight of his life in the exciting finale to this entertaining film.

Just watched this. I grew up in the 80โ€™s and this film made everyone want to do Karate. Thereโ€™s a good reAson - itโ€™s a fantastic film. Hasnโ€™t aged, the cinematography is solid, beautiful occasionally, visceral at others. The Karate ๐Ÿฅ‹ is so good at the end, and the depth and acting of the characters is superb. Man this is such a cool movie!! ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž If you havenโ€™t seen it, well ya should! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Watched this in the cinema 35 years ago. While many films from the 80's have not aged so well, The Karate Kid could have been made yesterday as the struggles of Daniel are just as relevant today as they were back then. A timeless classic,I would put it up there alongside The Breakfast Club as an essential watch for any teenager.

Much better than the Jayden Smith movie, this old version and it's two sequels are some of the best martial arts movies made and much succeed in allowing me to relive my childhood. At a great price too; it's defiantly worth it!
