Description

Triumphant over his greatest challenge with Russian boxer/killer Drago, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) is about to face an even bigger challenge-himself! Back home from Russia, people begin to note a slurring of his diction...which worsens. And they begin to notice that the things Rocky says are "dumber." Rocky suffered brain damage from his bout with the murderous Drago. To make matters even worse, Rocky is left broke by mismanagement of his fortune. Despite his desire to get into the ring, Rocky must retire and find a means of supporting his wife, Adrian (Talia Shire), and their son, Rocky Jr. (Sage Stallone). Economics force the family back to the seedy Philadelphia neighborhood they thought they had left forever. But Rocky has new hope for a promising young boxer-Tommy Gunn (Tommy Morrison).

It seems that ol' Sly really never knows when to jump off the gravy train. He has done it with both the Rambo series and this. Trying to squeeze the cash cow is not always the brightest idea to win the public over, though Stallone is not exactly the sharpest tool in the box. The story on this fifth outing is so simple, my five year old could have penned something with more grit. Rock returns from Russia to discover his brother-in-law/dimwit has lost all of their money through bad legal advice. The family move back to their old neirbourhood where Rocky starts to hang around the gym and starts to train a young up and coming fighter (Tommy Gunn.. See stupid isn't it). Thus he ends up neglecting his family, including his son who has aged about 10 years since Rocky 4 although in story terms this film directly follows on from the previous outing, in terms of a matter of days. The final scenario being that Tommy gets involved with a Don King lookalike and this character turns Tommy against Rocky (Big surprise). The film finishes with a dissapointing street brawl, and a lesson learned that family is the most important thing... Original? Didn't think so. The only highlight and real bit of emotion was a flashback scene with Burgess Meredith, who plays Micky, Rocky's trainer. Maybe I am being a little harsh on the film, but compared to the first film, which had great acting, original characters and a fantastic story, this is little more that drivel.

Most People watch this film and think, Man, That was terrible'. I can understand where they where coming from, Personally, i dont think this film was THAT bad, O.k it didnt have a scratch on the others. This was because sly was trying to do something different with the storyline. the reason it lacked the same glory as the others was because it was Half about rocky, but half about his son. they seemed to have strayed away from the rocky theme completely as not even the 'gonna fly now' theme wasnt even in this Film,.. Overall, It wasnt to bad,. it just failed to qualify for the one of the best one as the storyline was very poor,...
