This is a long, long film and feels like it. Lots of posturing and noble speeches given in immaculate uniforms and just too much, well, action. Once you’ve seen a few people blown up or mown down in my view you’ve seen them all. Strictly for the enthusiast.

Superb Movie! Worth every penny! Fab casting too! A must for any War Enthusiast! Gettysburg has everything for me. My highlights are the ongoing debates of the strategy of Gettysburg between General Lee and 'old war horse' General Longstreet. Also General Buford's early defence of Gettyburg before the confederate Army became concentrated for battle.

I thought the Killer Angels novel was fantastic but the film brings the whole story to life. Having visited the battleground a few years back , the film catches the aura of Gettysburg just perfectly. The characters are brought to life by some great acting and the story of Gettysburg lives on in this masterpiece.

This film is an epic! It has everything in it; action, drama, suspense, nobody at the time thought it was a great movie but I think it is a timeless classic that will never age, even on a par with "Lawrence Of Arabia" and "Dances With Wolves"
