Description

In 1776 a ragtag group of upstart British colonists embarked on a bold experiment in democracy that began in violence and bloodshed when they started a Revolution. Academy Award winner Al Pacino stars as Scottish immigrant Tom Dobb forced to choose sides when his son--who has fallen in love with a beautiful member of the minority, revolutionary faction fighting the British--is taken prisoner. Now, Dobb will be forced to become a hero as he takes up arms in a cause that will change the world.

After Hudson's success with Chariots of Fire and Greystoke this could have been great. Hudson stages scenes which are now textbook but then were groundbreaking (British attack). However, an awful script can't be ignored. I believe a truly great serious movie about the war of independence is yet to be made and considering it's the US that bankrolls films, I'm surprised a spielberg, or scorsese hasn't looked at this film as the bones of something that could be truly amazing. The Patriot wasn't it!
