Description

When Anna's (Amy Adams) four-year anniversary to her boyfriend passes without an engagement ring, she decides to take matters into her own hands. Inspired by an Irish tradition that allows women to propose to men on Leap Day, Anna follows Jeremy (Adam Scott) to Dublin to propose to him. But after landing on the wrong side of Ireland, she must enlist the help of the handsome and carefree local Declan (Matthew Goode) to get her across the country. Along the way, they discover that the road to love can take you to very unexpected places.

Don't know why there are bad reviews for this film! Okay! So it's not quite 12 Angry Men but I think we can deduce from the blurb that it's your standard rom com. The acting was no where near as bad as made out (The Devil's Own is my benchmark) and the humour, while not quite LOL worthy, is enough to earn a few chuckles. As a Scottish lass with Irish grandparents I enjoyed the slightly clichédness (my own coined word) of the characters especially during the ceilidh wedding scene ( I've experienced the whole swung of your feet thing, cracked a few ribs and witnessed a man take out a table full of drinks at a few of those.). This is a charming, gentle love story, with a touch of farcical slap stick humour and a few 'sigh' moments thrown in for good measure. It also helps that the lead is played by a hansom big irishman (West Country man I mean but his accent is pretty convincing). If you like French Kiss, Green Card, Forces of Nature and films of that ilk then Leap Year is right up your 'shraid'!

This is a great romcom/chick flick! Don't take it too seriously or over-criticise and you'll enjoy it a lot more :) I love Amy Adams, in my opinion she plays her character really well :)
  • No surprises here...

This is a pretty standard romcom, completely predictable, but nevertheless an enjoyable way to while away a few hours on a Sunday afternoon. No it's not high quality cinema, but it's not pretending to be anything else. Does exactly what is says on the tin.

The accents were a bit dodgy but it was a good film, easy to watch and relaxing, just what you need after a long hard week.
  • Pure drivel

Whoever thought this was a good idea should be shot!! I'm Irish and all the film did was make me cringe. We are not all drunk, tonsil hockey people like the film conveys. Story was weak and dull. Felt like there was no chemistry between the actors and the story lacked structure. Shame tho, sounded like a nice idea.

Was so moved with boredom and apathy I just had to leave a review. God almighty that was pain I wanted something easy going to send me to sleep but it was just irritating. Unbelievable and shocking, I didn't know you could buy such rubbish, you could give this one to me for free and I wouldn't watch it....run away this one is awful.

I am a huge rom com fan as it's my genre of choice for chilling out and turning off my brain, but this was baaaaaaaad. i couldn't even be bothered to finish watching it. That almost never happens.
