Description

What was Mark Whitacre thinking? A rising star at agri-industry giant Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Whitacre (Matt Damon) suddenly turns whistleblower. Even as he exposes his company's multi-national price-fixing conspiracy to the FBI, Whitacre envisions himself being hailed as a hero of the common man and handed a promotion. But before all that can happen, the FBI needs evidence, so Whitacre eagerly agrees to wear a wire and carry a hidden tape recorder in his briefcase, imagining himself as a kind of de facto secret agent. Unfortunately for the FBI, their lead witness hasn't been quite so forthcoming about helping himself to the corporate coffers. Whitacre's ever-changing account frustrates the agents (Scott Bakula and Joel McHale) and threatens the case against ADM as it becomes almost impossible to decipher what is real and what is the product of Whitacre's active imagination.

Fascinating film, great acting. Keeps you guessing and gripped to the ever evolving story line. It's one of my favourite movies. There was some swearing however, so only 1 star.

I'm guessing the 1 star reviews were expecting a stupid comedy that requires no intellectual involvement what so ever and that leaves you less intelligent than when you first started watching. This is a great film capturing a true story in a technical yet funny manner. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys good acting and directing.
  • Matt Damon is usually great but….

The Informant is just awful beyond belief. You will just shake your head and wonder what on earth the filmmakers were thinking of.

I took a girl to see this at the cinema. £25 I'll never see again. I felt compelled to leave but obliged to stay. I then really struggled to stay awake, which has never happened before or since. The film is incredibly confused: it doesn't know if it's a comedy (there is NOT A SINGLE funny moment in it) or some kind of 'twist-in-the-tail' story (there isn't one). I'll save you the suspense: he did it. Anyone who thinks this is a great film doesn't know what that means. The whole thing is a shame: waste of talent, waste of money, waste of time!!!!

Never seen such bad acting in all my life, especially from Damon. I lost the plot well into the beginning and was bored all the way through until about half an hour when I just turned it off. It's trying to be a Coen brother film, but fails badly. Avoid.

This is a proper film, a really good character study and matt damons best performance, beats good will hunting. If you need explosions and unrealustic stunts to keep you awake it may not be the one for you. It's a thinking mans film and a bit of a black comedy in the style of coen brothers, much like Fargo.
