Description

Directed by the Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window is an edge-of-your-seat classic starring two of Hollywood's most popular stars. When a professional photographer (James Stewart) is confined to a wheelchair with a broken leg, he becomes obsessed with watching the private dramas of his neighbors play out across the courtyard. When he suspects his neighbor of murdering his nagging wife, he enlists his socialite girlfriend (Grace Kelly) to help investigate the suspicious chain of events, leading to one of the most memorable and gripping endings in all of film history. Rear Window has been honored in AFI's 100 Years ... 100 Movies for excellence in film.

It's incredible how he could make such a suspenseful and clever film all set in one apartment. The same is true for "Rope"
  • A masterclass in tension.

This is literally one of the greatest movies I have ever watched. Brilliant from start to finish. By the end you are digging your fingernails into the arm rest. Film-making at its finest.

Story: 5/5 Acting: 4/5 directing: 5/5 lighting 5/5 music 5/5 concept 10/5! For me this has to be one of the best films of all time, and a real fine example of why hitchcock is not only the master of suspense, but of light. to create a feature length film from one room and hold the story together so well is fantastic. And to do it with lighting perfect to keep the suspenseful feel of harsh contrasts found in his older film noir films (shadow of a doubt, foreign correspondent) yet in colour is something for me has never been done as well since. Also anyone who is a fan of Robert Capa (founding member of Magnum) will enjoy the argument about Jeffries giving up photojournalism to run a studio will love this film as that is based on a conversation between ingrid Burgman and Capa on the set of Notorious (of which capa was a stills photographer) during their breif love affair.

Suspenseful gripping plot. Great acting from James Stewart and Grace Kelly. I don't particularly like Hitchcock but I do thoroughly recommend this film. He somehow managed to create a fab thriller with only a very simple set and a fairly mundane topic (man recuperating at home watching his neighbours from his flat window).

It draws you in, you become fascinated by the microcosm of the world outside the window....it's strangely comforting. You must see this film, forget any remake....this is the one.
