Silly, creepy and fun

Kind of a small follow on from Forbidden Planet since Robby the Robot features in this movie. THe main gist is that a professor has invented a time machine .. travelled to the year 2309 and brought Robby back with him. And then reversed engineered the Robot to create a computer system that becomes self aware. Some of the ideas in this film are actually pretty awesome forward thinking for the time, and you kinda wonder if James Cameron wasn't inspired by this film a little with his 'Terminator' story.
Well made visually and the film print itself looks very nice. Sound is Mono and the audio comes through very clear.
The only bad thing about this film which tends to annoy is that the 'Father' character is completely unrealistic in his reactions to his son. When Tim rebuilds Robby (Something that no eminent scientist has been able to do), and brings him in to show his father he just blows the kid off with a comment saying he shouldn't be disturbing the other scientists. And when he discovers his son is invisible he tells me off, in a rather off hand way, saying that he should 'Stop fooling around'. If my dad discovered me invisible he'd have nominated me for a Nobel Prize. And I personally found this a little frustrating in the movie because it's just completely the reactions that people would NOT have .. even in fantasy.
The rest of the film is good and I think it's certainly worth watching. The film does have some good creepy moments and terrific atmosphere. It's definitely a film that has many good moments and despite a few silliness flaws I still things it's a brilliant film. A great film to enthusiasts of the 1950's - 1960's Sci-Fi. And an interesting footnote to Forbidden Planet.
Widescreen aspect looks like 1.78:1.
