In this classic psychological horror film, a beautiful young fashion designer begins to believe--as people close to her die gruesomely--that she bears the curse of The Cat People. Serbian Irena Dubrovna's (Simone Simon) people believe that they are haunted by an ancient curse: Whenever their passions are aroused, they change into a panther--with lethal consequences. Yet when Irena moves to New York, she falls in love with Oliver Reed (Kent Smith) and accepts his proposal of marriage. But as Oliver begins to stray, Irena confides to her psychiatrist (Tom Conway) that she believes she may be the terrifying feline presence stalking her husband's mistress (Jane Randolph) in the shadows. He assures Irena that her fears exist only in her own mind, but his body is soon discovered in Irena's apartment--mauled to death by a wild animal. Hunted and half-mad, Irena flees. But the mystery remains: In the heat of passion, does she change ... or doesn't she?
