Description

Journey into an explosion of sight, sound, song and superb storytelling as brilliantly conceived by animation innovator Ralph Bakshi (Fritz the Cat, The Lord of the Rings, Wizards). From a turn-of-the-century immigrant vaudevillian to a rock superstar, "American Pop" is the story of four generations whose lives revolve around the beat of American popular music. Featuring a mind-blowing soundtrack bursting with the hit music of The Doors, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Mamas & The Papas, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pat Benatar, Lou Reed, Bob Seger and more. Packed with energy, excitement, electricity and enthusiasm, Bashki's work is a ground-breaking, kaleidoscopic animated trip.

I first saw this film randomly on TV in London and instantly knew that I had seen something that transcended the movie genre and was, in point of fact a work of art. I looked high and low for it byt couldn't find a copy for purchase anywhere until I stumbled across it here and snapped it up straight away. Covering the history of modern music from the early 1900s through to the 1980s this is simultaneously the story of three generations of musicians and the story of American music. I never tire of watching it nor of being transported through the incredible sounds which it seamlessly integrates into the plot line, I recommend American Pop both to fans of music and animation and to all people everywhere!!!
