Description

"The Science of Sleep," a playful romantic fantasy set inside the topsy-turvy brain of Stephane Miroux (Gael Garcia Bernal) an eccentric young man whose dreams constantly invade his waking life. While slumbering, he is the charismatic host of "Stephane TV," expounding on "The Science of Sleep" in front of cardboard cameras. In "real life," he has a boring job at a Parisian calendar publisher and pines for Stephanie (Charlotte Gainsbourg), the girl in the apartment across the hall. While Stephanie is initially charmed by Stephane, she is confused by his childishness and shaky connection to reality. Stephanes co-worker, Guy (Alain Chabat) a vulgar but practical man, offers advice on the opposite sex, but Stephane is too far in the clouds to listen. Unable to find the secret to Stephanies heart while awake, Stephane searches for the answer in his dreams.

Totally one of a kind you will never come across anything like this... Really worth every penny because it's a complete experience i admit it is very strange but i ended up falling in love with stephane's character and the imagination and creativity put into this

If i had time to watch one film in my final few hours on this earth this would be the one. For those worried that it is 'unapproachable', don't. This is the kind of film where you could watch it on mute and it will still move you without the words and accompanying music. It is aesthetically one of the most beautiful things i have seen. It makes me laugh and at times it makes me cry. Not necessarily because of 'tear-jerking' content, more that it highlights an aspect of love, an aspect of romantic entanglement that we may have already encountered or certainly will one day. Lose your adult eyes before you watch it. That is all i have to say on the matter.
  • The trailer looks fantastic but the reality is difficult

I was very interested in seeing this film because of its use of old animation techniques. The film is however very hard to get into and I found it unapproachable and it did't really let you in. I do quite like odd little films but it is important to make it palatable to the audience.

be a little suspicious... that's what my girlfriend, who is French, said about this film. The trailer is excellent, but bears almost no relation to the film which is simply bizarre.
