Description

From Mike Judge, one of the creative minds behind Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill, and Office Space, comes an outrageous sci-fi comedy that'll make you think twice about the future of mankind. Meet Joe Bowers (Luke Wilson). He's not the sharpest tool in the shed. But when a government hibernation experiment goes awry, Bowers awakens in the year 2505 to find a society so dumbed-down by mass commercialism and mindless TV programming that he's become the smartest guy on the planet. Now it's up to an average Joe to get human evolution back on track!

It’s a bit awkward watching something that is this prescient as the jokes to some extent are at the audience’s/general public’s expense. 12 years on, the corporatisation and dumbing down of America that this film saw is obvious, even how the ignorance is driven by people being wired into the internet in isolation in their bedrooms.

I bought this upon the recommendation of a colleague. I wish I’d never listened to him. It was utterly rubbish, and I spent the whole film duration willing it to improve!

Whatever you do, don't make the same mistake as me. Just flush your money straight down the toilet. It will be better spent.

After such a promising set-up, the US military’s most average (i.e., the viewer) in a reality where he is suddenly considered America’s smartest after the plausible Darwinist extinction of the intelligentsia - we are treated one joke that lasts the film’s 1-hour-19-minute runtime. Inconsistent, lazy and with zero exploration of the theme; the writers appear to be catering to the very audience they are lampooning. Office Space it aint.

Funny and food for thought, this might be where reality tv is taking the human race!

Cleaver though, how this film is the proof of it's own idea.
  • Mildly Amusing

An OK film. A funny and interesting concept. Laughing at the stereotype of American 'fast food'/ 'consumerist' culture. A bit predictable at times, but the nature of the concept allowed this to be forgivable. Other than that I found the film mildly amusing.

A silly concept, but that's obviously the point of the film. As long as your not expecting anything profound and your up for a laugh then its well worth a watch. good fun.
