Description

Inspired by the hit animated television series, and featuring Warner Bros.' first-ever use of computer-generated animation, the Batman legend continues in this all-new, original story that tells of Batman's most difficult battle, as well as his confrontation with a mysterious killer -- the Phantasm -- who holds the key to Batman's secret past. The infamous Joker is also featured in this adventure in which Batman once again encounters his long-lost love, Andrea Beaumont, and considers giving up his cape and cowl forever. The New York Times calls it "a cartoon film noir," and the Los Angeles Times agrees, saying the film displays a "terrific looking world of film noir-influenced Art Deco skyscrapers, shadows, gargoyles and windows."

A beautiful spin-off from the classic Batman: The Animated Series, featuring largely the same voice cast and some notable extras, including Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as the definitive pairing of Batman/Bruce Wayne and The Joker; future Lois Lane, Dana Delany as Bruce's first love, Andrea Beaumont; Hart Bochner (son of Lloyd, who played Mayor Hill in the series); Abe Vigoda (of The Godfather fame) as the pleasingly sleazy Salvatore Valestra and last, but by no means least, Stacy Keach Jr as the extreme vigilante, The Phantasm. As poignant as Batman Returns or Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, this film is truly must-see viewing for any Batman fan or fan of the series, boasting some wonderful visuals and an epic score from Shirley Walker.

Perhaps the greatest animated movie I have ever seen. But a PG. More of a 12 than a PG, very intense but super awesome.

A great Batman animated film, easily up there with Sub Zero and Return of the Joker. Shame the SD quality isn't that great, because it deserves better presentation, but it doesn't affect the quality of the story. Buy it!

Exellent film with mind-blowing action however I regret to state that the price is way too high. Released over 10 years ago and it's £7?!
  • Better then the first 4 live action films!

I'm a big fan of all things d.c especially the batman and superman, I found this at times boring the romance involved was tedious and pointless not one of the best animated films glad I only rented.
  • An animation classic

This truly a great film. This how the original live action films should of been like. It took until The Dark Knight to get it right. The Joker is a fantastic villian. Not lacking in action. A classic.
  • Probably the best animation has to offer

As another review said, the is the story of a darker batman. The plot is also some thing you'd expect for a live action movie but is executed in animation far better than film could possibly do. It's over looked but definately worth a watch.
